Sustainable workplace and beyond

We strive to make our workplace a space that creates positive change, from a resource-efficient building to second-hand furniture and local and ethical procurement.

Our impact

Energy efficient building

The Sandbox is located in a newly constructed building (2021) with excellent isolation and an energy label A. We use 100% green energy, and our heating system is powered by city heat, which is 70% more sustainable than gas.

Smart & natural lighting

Our building has plenty of daylight, making lighting unnecessary most of the time. All lights are separately adjustable per room and only turn on when the space or room is in use, preventing unnecessary energy use.

Central location

We are conveniently located and easily accessible via public transportation and bike. Combined with our flexible "pay per minute" offerings, we can provide a workspace for everyone at any time. Our goal is to reduce travel movements and commuting by car.

Office decoration

For our office decoration, we mostly use local and environmentally friendly suppliers and products. We have also bought second-hand furniture and used wrapping by Revicoat and Wrappn.nu to upcycle the look and feel. We utilize multifunctional mobile furniture solutions to make efficient use of space and resources and to provide solutions for hybrid working. For example, our mobile desks can also be used as a whiteboard.

Smart heating & cooling

Each room has a stand-alone Daikin VRF system for heating and cooling, a highly efficient temperature unit. These systems are proven to use at least 20% less energy for heating and are separately adjustable for each room. This way, we ensure the most efficient and sustainable use of resources and a comfortable working environment for everyone.

Construction & design

From the start, we have been committed to using sustainable construction materials. We have doors from GewoonGers, a Rotterdam-based supplier with CO2-neutral production. Our movable walls are from Espero, who are cradle-to-cradle certified.

Furthermore, the roof of the building and the streets of Little C (the neighbourhood) are designed to collect rainwater, which is used to water the greenery around the area.

Local & ethical procurement

We are committed to spending at least 50% of our costs on local suppliers. At present, more than 80% of our costs are spent on local suppliers. For more information about our local partners and procurement process.
